INCOMING FRESHMEN - Grade 9
The following is the admissions procedure (during the Fall of 2016) for new freshmen in the Class of 2021.
The Class of 2021
a. THE FIRST STEP is always to visit the school, attend school events and Open Houses, sign up for an HSPT study session, and discern prayerfully all that you see and hear.
b. Take the High School Placement Test (from Scholastic Testing Service) at the St. John Paul II campus on the morning of Saturday, 10 December 2016. Be sure to register for the HSPT ahead of time. Test begins at 8:45 a.m. Test begins at 9:00 a.m. The test fee is $15.
c. Complete an application online.
SINCE THIS DATE HAS PASSED, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL TO TAKE THE TEST BY APPOINTMENT.
We would like the application packets by 13 January 2017, but will accept them anytime in the month of January in order to give an admissions decision by 3 February 2017.
c. School records need to be submitted along with the online application, which consist of a transcript for the middle school career (grades 6, 7, and the fall semester of grade 8) and all standardized test results from the middle school years. St. John Paul II will request the records from Catholic grade schools. Public school candidates need to request these records on their own. Some public schools will copy and mail them for parents. Other schools will copy and give to parents; in this case, please scan and upload them to the online application. Home school families should consult with SJPII to determine what records and letters are available and can be submitted.
d. Two letters of recommendation from current teachers (a middle school language arts teacher and a middle school math teacher) need to be received by the school. A school administrator can write a recommendation if desired. Students should supply the recommending teachers with an addressed stamped envelope (St. John Paul II Catholic High School; Admissions Committee; 6720 FM 482; New Braunfels, Texas 78132). Be sure your name is on the envelope as well as on the recommendation form.
e. An interview with the administration (when deemed possible and/or necessary). The school will contact the applicant if this is necessary.
♦ For incoming freshmen, once the admissions file is complete, we can give an admissions decision. We will begin sending out letters on Friday, 3 February 2017 (the unified admissions decision date for all Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese).
After that date, admissions decisions will be made and communicated as soon as the file is complete (with school records and letters of recommendation).
f. NEW GUARDIAN NIGHT! For all accepted students, and any new applicant families, we host a prospective students night on Wednesday, 22 February 2017, at 6:45 p.m. The evening is for students and parents. We have current students and teachers presenting to 8th graders, sharing with them what it means to be a Guardian. The school administration and current parents talk with prospective parents, about the school community and what it means to be a Guardian parent.
g. Actual registration for the 2017-18 school year will be held during the last two weeks of March 2017.
