As we as a community travel down our Advent path, we don't often get to celebrate together. So, this year, we thought we would try something different...
Father John Francis, our school chaplain, will be celebrating a Christmas Eve Mass at St. Joseph's Chapel this year, gathering at 5:30 to sing Christmas Carols, and Mass at 6:00 p.m. We are not sure the response, but all are welcome. The chapel itself seats 120 "closely" and another 20 in the choir loft. With standing room, capacity can reach another 20. The school has tried to be very clear that our role is to support parish life, not supplant it, and so, we offer this opportunity with some measure of reserve. We will do our best to accommodate folks, if people choose to attend.
Note a few things about St. Joseph's Chapel. It is a beautiful, special, and sacred chapel, with great significance to the local community and to the SJPII Community, for sure. A 111-year old chapel has some limitations, of course. There is no heat and there are no bathrooms. (Even the existing outhouses are not functional.) Families need to prepare. Further, there are steps up into the chapel, so there is no wheelchair access.
