The second annual Guardians Gala has been announced! This year, we are honoring Karl Keating, a noted Catholic apologist who started Catholic Answers Live, This Rock, and many other Catholic publications and books. Since 1979, he has been active in helping others know what our Church teaches and to defend and share our Faith. In 2010, the school honored George Weigel, the official biographer of Blessed Pope John Paul II, and so Mr. Keating is joining what is now a noted list of American Catholics.
We are also very excited to announce that our Archbishop, the Most Reverend Gustavo García-Siller, M.Sp.S. will be the celebrant at a Mass that will begin the evening. The Mass will be held at 6 p.m. at San Fernando Cathedral, with a dinner Gala at 7:15 p.m., at the adjacent AT&T Community Centre. The gala will feature a talk by Mr. Keating about his work and our Church today.
The event benefits the founding of John Paul II Catholic High School, a new Archdiocesan Catholic high school, entering its third year of classes. Founded in 2009 by a group of parents and the Archdiocese, JPIICHS is located in the northeast portion of our diocese, serving families in San Antonio, Selma, Schertz, Converse, Cibolo, Garden Ridge, New Braunfels, and Seguin. Learn more about the school at www.johnpaul2chs.org.
Tickets for the event will be $100, and all proceeds go toward making a Catholic high school education possible for the students and families of this area of our Archdiocese. Previous to JPIICHS, Catholic education in grades 9-12 was not an option. Thanks to the generosity and support of people like you, now it is. We are also currently looking for named business sponsorships as well. Contact the school to learn more: 830-643-0802.
Please save the date for this special evening – a rare opportunity to hear and meet a national Catholic figure! – and share with your friends.
