MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAY-OFF GAME - Friday, 21 February 2014, 7 p.m. vs. Boerne Geneva (played at Wagner High School 3000 N Foster Road, San Antonio, TX)
************************
Did you hear the bells on Friday afternoon last week? No?
Our great men’s swim team finished third at the TAPPS Swim Meet, and picked up 6 more points. Many thanks to our swimmers, swim parents, and Coach Steven Van Sciver for their contribution. On Monday afternoon, our men’s soccer team clinched the district title in soccer. Earlier in the spring, we qualified a debater for the state meet in late spring.
With these points, and our women’s basketball team’s play-off win on Tuesday night in Pasadena (which gets us another point), JOHN PAUL II is currently in first place in Henderson Cup points for 2A. Remember that at the start of the year, we put in front of our students to goal to compete for the Henderson Cup, which is an accumulation of points earned in all TAPPS competitions (arts & athletics) at the state level. That we have a good chance to be in first place at the end of the winter season is a great accomplishment, and I hope will be a spur to push even harder.
We have the district academic meet in ten days, and the soccer teams will both host first round play-off games on 1 March.
Coming up tomorrow, though, first, our men’s basketball team has an important second round play-off game versus Geneva Boerne. Our team won the district, and in so doing earned a first-round bye, and now we get to host the second round game.
The game will be tomorrow, Friday, 21 February 2014, at Wagner High School Gym (3000 N. Foster Road; north of IH-10, just west of the 1604-IH 10 interchange). Start time is 7 p.m.
We are asking for a BLUE OUT, all fans in blue, and more importantly to get a lot of cheering fans there at the game. Like all of our student activities, from music to debate to athletics, we have improved greatly over the past four years. Friday evening will be a great opportunity to celebrate, make some noise, and help our team take advantage of home court.
We are putting out some incentives to students, and hope everyone can see clear to get to the game and push our team to victory. We know it is a busy day -- softball and baseball at TMI, the freshman retreat coming home -- but this is a great chance to support the school.
