•••• Updates for 30 April 2014 ••••
• St. JPII Novena as a community • Canonization Mass • Thanks for your prayers! We hope that it helped you to increase your prayer life! And thanks for showing up for the mass! A great turn-out -- the Archbishop was very pleased with the response.
• Our school Name •
With the canonization of St. John Paul II, we have added St. to our official school name. There are lots of reasons for this. Primary among them is to show the respect and honor we are privileged to give to our school’s patron, St. John Paul II. We are to be stewards of JPII and to share him with our Archdiocese, and so we need to do so fully. We recognize that this does create a very long official school name, but it should be understood that it would not be Matthew’s Catholic School or Luke’s Catholic School. He is a Saint, and we need to call him as such. It has been a challenge for me to change the habit of saying the name “St. John Paul II Catholic High School, how may I help you?” when answering the phone, but it will come in time.
• A word on uniforms •
Not to seem contradictory from earlier comments, all current uniforms, t-shirts, and uniforms will continue to be in use for as long as they hold up. As we order new items, where practical, we will write the name of the school as St. John Paul II or St. John Paul II Catholic High School. I would think that St. John Paul II would agree with this practical measure, saving our school and family resources.
• Drumline interest •
As we announced last week, we have fully funded the equipment and uniforms for the addition of a drumline for 2014-2015. On Mr. Iliff’s table in his office, there is a sign-up sheet for those interested in joining this group. Once the group is assembled, there will be practices through the summer to ready for next year. Again, it will count as a fine arts credit (for full participation).
• Spring Drama Show •
Some of our theatre students have put together a show for the spring, two short works selected with mom and dad in mind. Both are light-hearted fun works. The students will be performing them on campus from the stage in the cafeteria; a group of theatre tech students have built a set for the students to use as well. Before the show, there will be a meal served, a full brisket BBQ plate. Full dinner and show tickets are $15. The funds will help to purchase of theatre supplies for drama and one act play. Tickets available on-line as well.
