At the School Council's June 2012 planning meeting, one of the activities was to engage in a longer conversation to determine the actions that all council members that were specific to this council and our school. The resulting ten steps are a wonderful explanation of "What a school council member does."
Demonstrate strong Catholic identity; promote Catholic identity/mission of school as the primary and 1st goal of JPII.
Attend many school functions in order to have a full understanding of school and its work.
Share with Principal information and updates when you deem it relevant.
Pastor to the school community through prayer, conversation, and encouragement of Catholic social principles, modeling of core virtues.
Work toward common good and harmony, and maintain transparency and confidentiality.
Attend all council meetings and all committee meetings as assigned; lead, participate, engage, as an individual leader and get others to do the same.
Encourage and maintain a spirit of service.
Identify and encourage future council and committee and board membership.
Commit to meeting preparation and follow-up.
Facilitate continuity through documentation and feedback.
